Scattered Lives
A family history of war, internment, displacement, survival, and memory in the Dutch East Indies.
Built from Bernardina Palm-Pennings’s wartime Baby Boek, family photographs, letters, archival records, and firsthand accounts, Scattered Lives follows one family through the Japanese occupation, internment, liberation, and the long aftermath of war.
Original drawing by Edwina Berlijn, created years before the title Scattered Lives was chosen.
