About Berlijn Lusink

Berlijn Lusink is an independent home for carefully researched history, documentary work, creative nonfiction, photography, poetry, and publishing.

The story behind Berlijn Lusink began long before the website or the press existed. My Oma, Bernardina — whom we called Moh — spent decades trying to tell the story of what happened to our family during the war. She began it many times, but never completed it. After she died, more than thirty years passed without another attempt. Eventually, my mother, Edwina, decided to try again. Scattered Lives grew from that effort — from her memories, Moh’s Baby Boek, family photographs, letters, records, and the work of piecing everything together.

Berlijn Lusink Press serves as the publishing imprint for books and other long-form works. The broader Berlijn Lusink project also provides space for historical essays, environmental documentation, local history, photography, poetry, and other work grounded in careful observation and evidence.

The goal is not to publish for outrage, speed, or attention. It is to create work that remains useful after the moment has passed.

Where factual claims are made, sources matter. Where memory is involved, context matters. Where history is difficult, it should be presented honestly rather than simplified.

Berlijn Lusink is still growing. Scattered Lives is the first major publication, but the long-term aim is to build a body of work centered on preservation, place, memory, and thoughtful storytelling.
